Working as part of a small software team and closely with hardware engineers, silicon designers and systems engineers, your responsibilities may include the development of software for Picocom’s own System on Chip (SoC) products, associated devices and test equipment used in development and production.
Picocom’s own SoCs include multi-core RISC-V processors (up to 16 cores per cluster and multiple clusters), which amongst other things are used for real time header processing of protocols running over 25 Gigabit Ethernet with PCIe 4 and other high speed interfaces. These are mainly programmed in C using a low-level RTOS, as well as some processor cores that run embedded Linux. These are currently being designed into cutting-edge 5G network equipment.
At times you will need to assist customers who are using Picocom’s software and may need to work with customers to develop additional software that meets their requirements.
Job openings are available for candidates with a variety of levels of experience, from those with little programming experience through to several decades. More senior roles require more of the requirements listed as desirable.
Experience in the development and debugging of real-time embedded systems.
A high level of competence in ‘C’ language coding and scripting languages (eg: Python) and associated development tools.
Experience in programming Linux-based systems.
The ability to communicate well on a technical level, both with colleagues and customers.
Working knowledge of 3GPP LTE and/or 5G RAN with a focus on Layer 1 (PHY), but layers 2 and 3 are also useful.
Working knowledge of any other wireless or wireline protocols.
An understanding of Real Time Operating Systems.
Experience working with technical standards for telecoms and/or networking.
An understanding of Ethernet and IP networking.
Experience with digital interfacing and bus standards, e.g. PCIe, I2C, SPI, SERDES.
Experience in using modern software development methodologies, including version and configuration control systems, continuous development and continuous integration.
