Island Coverage
Offshore islands lack terrestrial 5G coverage, creating wireless coverage hole that hinder:
- Fishermen’s access to real-time weather/fishing data
- Emergency voice/video communication
- Ecological monitoring and data transmission
The Picocom High-Throughput Satellite Backhaul based 5G Small Cell solves these problems effectively. The solution powers the system through solar power generation and energy storage; The small cell can provide 5G network coverage within a radius of 5 kilometers (i.e. 75 square kilometers), and fishermen can make voice and video calls with the land and use Internet apps through ordinary mobile phones. The base station also provides WiFi access. Various sensors and video surveillance balls deployed on the island can send the monitoring data to the base station through 5G or WiFi, and further to the “cloud” management platform/data center through the high-throughput high-orbit satellite.
